Have your summer holidays started yet? Some schools have already broken up, whilst others don’t shut for another few weeks.
But one thing’s for sure – summer holidays are on their way, and for kid bloggers this means only one thing – MORE TIME TO BLOG.
Here are some ideas for blog posts you could write this summer
- What do you intend to do this summer?
Make a list of all the adventures you’d like to have during the holidays. Are you going somewhere interesting? Will you be catching up with friends? Baking an epic cake? Painting a portrait of your whole family? Improving your swimming technique? Building a Minecraft mansion? - And what did you actually do?
At the end of the holidays, look back and see whether you actually did all the things you said you wanted to at the start of the summer. Or maybe you had an even more interesting adventure? - Record a nature walk
Go for a walk and notice all the nature you see. Take notes and pictures, then write it up in a blog post. Don’t forget to look close to the ground and high up in trees – what’s hiding there that you haven’t seen before? - Make a video
Some posts take a little longer to put together – maybe now is your chance to make that Minecraft video you’ve been meaning to. You’ll find more tips on making videos here. - Make a photo collage
Now’s a good time to sort out all the photos you’ve taken so far this year which might have been building up on your camera or phone. Make a photo post that tells the story of your year so far in pictures only, no words. - Build a den in your back yard
Build a den and then write a blog post all about how to build a den. If your wifi stretches out as far as your back yard then you might be able to take a laptop or tablet and blog live from your den. - Live blog an event or TV show
Live blogging is simply writing about something as it happens, rather than reflecting on it later as you might do in a normal blog post. It’s great fun because you have to type really fast and get your thoughts down straight away. - Write a short story
Fiction can make for great blog material, and you can just have fun making up stories – they can be funny, sad, weird or anything you want them to be. You could even write a poem or sing a song. - Expand it into a series
If your story seems too long for one blog post, then split it across several posts to keep readers coming back to hear what happens next. Leave a cliff hanger at the end of each post/chapter, like they do on soap operas. This is how Charles Dickens started – at least he would have, if he’d had a blog. - Interview someone
Ask your grandparents what life was like when they were kids. Ask your dad what his most embarrassing moment was. Ask your mum what her hopes for the future are. Find someone you know and ask them 5 questions for a blog interview. Or you could hook up with another kid blogger and interview each other.
