Do you have to do lots of writing to be a good blogger? Do all blog posts have to be very long? What’s an easy way to create a blog post when you don’t have much time?
Here are some ideas for the kind of blog posts you could create – and some of them don’t involve any writing at all. If you’re working on a new blog, it might be fun to see how many different types of posts you can create:
- Reviews
A review can be your opinion of anything – the last good book you read; movie you saw or place you visited. Write about the good and the not so good parts, what you liked and what you would change. - Top tips
These sort of posts are very popular online, especially if you give it a number such as ‘Top 5’ or ‘Top 10’. Do you have a hobby or sport that you could think of some tips for? - Opinions
What’s happening in your life or in the news that you feel strongly about? - A picture post
Either take a photo with a camera or phone, or draw a picture and scan it in to the computer - A video post
You can find some ideas for easy ways to make films for your blog here. Or you can upload one of your favourite videos from Youtube – look for the embed code and add it into the HTML section when you’re writing the post and it will appear. - Audio only
Turn your blog into your own radio show with sound-only posts. Audioboo is a great site for recording audio posts. - Interviews
An interview doesn’t have to be long or with a celebrity – it could be an interview with anyone you find interesting. You could interview a fellow blogger or a member of your family. - A ‘How To’ post
Posts like this are incredibly popular because people are always searching on the internet for information about how to do things. So what do you know how to do that you could tell people about? - A craft or activity postÂ
It’s a good idea to take a lot of pictures with posts like this so you can show how you did the activity. Let the photos tell the story and then fill in any extra information. - Recipes
Make sure you write these in a very clear way so that anybody can follow. If you’re basing this post on an original recipe then link back to that but say what you did differently. - Stories and poems
It can be really fun to write your own original stories and poems and share them on your blog. - A cute picture of a cat
EVERYBODY likes those. Don’t they?????
Above all remember that it’s your blog so you decide what the posts are about – it’s like being the boss of your own online magazine. So even if you normally write book reviews or fashion posts, you can always mix it up with an interview or video post.
What sort of blog posts do you like to write best? And as a blog reader, what sort of posts do you enjoy reading the most?
