Blogging our way through life!
3 free ways to make your blog stand out from the crowd

Ten year old Jessica has already notched up years of blogging experience, and currently shares her opinions on what she’s up to via her great blog Reviews by a Child.
If you’re thinking of having a blog makeover, here are Jessica’s top tips on how to give your blog the edge, get tons of traffic and create a blog to be proud of.

Jessica says:

Face it. Your blog is one of millions out there. How do you make it stand out? Well, if you follow these simple steps, your blog is sure to be a super success!

No.1 – Mini Makeover!

Make your blog so people want to read it. Choose a background with a cool colour or experiment with fonts – this grabs people’s attention.

An amazing site to jazz up your blog is ShabbyBlogs. This has fun backgrounds, widgets, buttons and much, much more! I especially like the retro blinkies with old fashioned sayings on them.

Picmonkey is a great site for creating blog buttons. Just save a picture to your computer and start editing! This website has fantastic effects such as Andy Warhol and “Intrepid” which are hilarious to experiment with. Another bonus is that if your picture is of a person, the site has a section where you can airbrush anyone with features such as “teeth whitener” and “red eye remover”.

If you have a book review blog, Shelfari allows you to create online bookshelves that you can customize and add to your blog. I have filled mine up with my favourite books and when you scroll onto a book, you can see my miniature review of it.

No.2 – Make Online Friends!

Some people don’t make internet friends at all. However, the right internet friends can give you a load of page-views. Kids’ Blog Club is a safe bet, so write a comment or a guest post today and herd people over to your blog. Don’t just stop there…

When I was seven and had just started my book review blog, my mum showed me some other book review blogs to show me what they were like. We came across Books4yourkids  and I do remember getting very excited- so excited in fact that we emailed Tanya (who still writes the blog today) and told her about my new blog. We are now friends and once she even interviewed me, getting me a huge amount of interest in my blog.

No.3 – Social Networking!

I don’t have a Twitter or Facebook account myself but my mum has, and sometimes she tweets my reviews to the companies whose products I have reviewed. This gets me a lot of views and sometimes responses from the companies itself. One of my best examples is that Puffin Books found my review of Puffin Post and tweeted about it. When my brother visited the place where they are based, there was a giant noticeboard telling everyone to check out my blog! Another time was when I got free vouchers from a company called Amy’s Kitchen (who do the best macaroni cheese) as they found my review of their spinach lasagne. Make sure you have a contact me page so people can get in touch.

Most importantly, blogging is about having fun and expressing yourself, so don’t take these steps too seriously. I love blogging, so if you are reading this (fantastic, brilliant and amazing) post, BLOG ON!

like you wrote the e book in it or something. I think that you simply can do
