Meet Marusa – author & blogger aged 10

marusa - ponytail girl

Today we’re delighted to welcome a very special kid blogger – 10 year old Marusa.

Marusa, who comes from Slovenia but now lives in England, is a real inspiration. Not only does she write her own blog, Ponytail Girl,  she’s also published a book. Marusa started writing Morris & Henry and the Sheep Who Wanted to Fly when she was only 6, and it was published when she was 9.

Here Marusa tells us where she finds her ideas and what her plans for the future are:

Tell us a little about your book Morris & Henry and the Sheep Who Wanted to Fly and what the story is about?

My book is about two friends – a giraffe and a tortoise – who one day suddenly meet a sheep called Wooly. Wooly would really like to fly and Henry, (the tortoise) has an idea how. Morris (the giraffe) and Henry help Wooly to fly a plane. Along the way, they meet new friends. Priscilla, a magical flying unicorn and Ell Tell, the owner of Eagleclaw airport. I deeply think that my book is creative and imaginative for children of young ages.

How did you get your book published and on sale? Was it difficult to arrange?

I didn’t publish my book with publishers because it is too confusing. So, my dad published my book for me as an e-book on Amazon. Still under my name, though. But I guess there was quite a lot that he had to do to get it published.

What would your advice be to anyone who wants to write a book but doesn’t know how to start or if their idea is any good?

Well, I would suggest thinking about their ideas, over and over again. Maybe using some inspiration from my books, or other books. Then group everything together and hopefully something great will turn out. When starting a story, it’s always best to begin with your main characters. Start off like “Once upon a time there lived…” or something similar and then you give a name of your main character. I’m sure the book will end up great then!

What would you like to do when you grow up? Any plans for more books?

At the moment I am trying various things. Book writing will probably always be my career but I am trying to be a fashion designer, a singer, a zoo keeper. I will decide when I am older. I have already finished my second book, which will be published in a few weeks’ time, hopefully. I am already writing my third book. This one is not a book for young ages, but for a little bit older kids. My age or under, I think.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing your bog?

I usually work for school, or play. Most of the time I sing or learn new songs. I am actually practicing Japanese singing right now but I also enjoy making up new songs as I wander about.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Well, you get to be creative and write about your life, imagination or just post videos. I love posting videos! It’s good to have a blog because your mind can really open up. You can also share fun things that are happening in your life.

I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more from Marusa in years to come! But until then you can check out her blog Ponytail Girl and her book

This is amazing, to be your age and so insightful. While most 10 year olds are busying themselves with TV, you are actually adding value and making an imprint for yourself. Keep up the good work.
