KIDS' BLOG CLUB
Blogging our way through life!
Where can I start a free blog for kids?

free blog for kids

The question we get asked most often is – How do I create a free blog for kids?

But the truth is – they’re (almost) all free – both WordPress and Blogger will allow you to set up a free blog, and almost all of the kids’ blogs we link to from here have been created at no cost.

Both of these platforms have free blog templates you can use  and customise by adding in your own images.

Of course, like anything, if you want to spend money then you can.

The most obvious thing that you might want to buy is a domain name. This means that your blog address will be a nice and clean dot com. We bought KidsBlogClub as a domain name, and this means that we can call it www.KidsBlogClub.com

If you don’t buy a domain name then your blog will still have WordPress or Blogspot in the address (depending on which one you use).

If the dot com is not available, then you might want to either change the name or buy whatever is available, like dot org, or dot co dot uk. When we started Eljae we originally called it Eljay, but somebody had already bought that name so we changed the spelling to a name that was available.

But for most kid bloggers you don’t need to do any of this – you can start a free blog very easily. Just remember that you’re not supposed to have a WordPress or Blogger account if you’re under 13, so if that’s you then your parent will need to register and then add you as a user.

You will need access to a computer but hopefully you already have one at home. You don’t need to buy any special equipment for blogging. A camera is useful, but a camera phone can take pretty good pictures too. Or you can always create your own images.

The real cost of starting a blog is in time, not money. Time to write posts, create images, learn more about blogging. But if you’re a kid, time is one thing that you’ve got plenty of. Just make sure you spend it wisely.

Have you spent any money on your kid blog? Or have you done it all for free?

  1. Hi! My mom set up the blog for me at wordpress. She did not pay any money. We spent a lot of time in choosing template though! I wanted to pick one that had some blue in it and one that was not girlie! 🙂

  2. Thank you for your comment Ms. Joanne. I have grabbed a KBC badge to display on my blog.

I’m just starting my own parenting blog as a dad (still only written in French as I’m native speaker but soon coming in english too!) and I used Overblog which is the Europe’s leading blog platform and is simply awesome to use. So easy to configure your own theme & layout. Make sure you take a look into it 🙂 M.

I think that everything said made a bunch of sense. But, what about
this? suppose you wrote a catchier post title? I am not saying your information is not good,
but suppose you added a post title that makes people want
more? I mean Where can I start a free blog for kids? is kinda plain.
You could glance at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they write post titles to grab people
interested. You might add a related video or a related picture or two to
grab people excited about what you’ve got to say.
In my opinion, it would make your blog a little bit more interesting.

This is for all of you who think kids should have Facebook, They have fairly recently made a Messenger Kids! It is run by your parent and you can still have friends and family talk to you on it but your parent has to approve the contact! It is really great, i have it and so do all of my siblings. Then you are also safe and don’t have to worry about getting friend requests from people you don’t know.

  38. SoccerGirl says:
