Young writers offered the chance to be a magazine journalist for a day
Categories: For kids, Kid Blog News

Do you hope that writing your blog will one day lead to a career as a professional writer? Here’s how you could take a first step towards a career as a journalist – and you get to take your BFF along with you.

Girl Talk magazine is offering aspiring young writers the chance to spend a day as a journalist with the biggest selling pre-teen magazine in the UK.  One lucky winner and a friend could be part of Girl Talk’s editorial team during February half-term.

To enter, you’ll need to write a 25-50 word gossip story about your favourite celebrity in the style of Girl Talk magazine. It’s not a lot of words to play with – much shorter than a blog post – so take your time and make every word count. Have a good read through Girl Talk beforehand so you know how they usually write their celebrity stories, and use this style as a guide.

The competition will be judged by Girl Talk’s editorial team who will be looking for the most creative and attention-grabbing entry.

One lucky winner plus pal will be invited to the Girl Talk office in London to have lunch with the Editor, Bea Appleby; explore the Girl Talk fashion cupboard and have their picture taken in an outfit of their choice; attend a cover meeting and create a mock-up page.

Bea Appleby, Editor of Girl Talk magazine said “This a really exciting opportunity for a young person to experience what it’s like to work as a journalist and get a taste of the magazine industry. We can’t wait to see the articles from our readers, who we know are very talented, and meet whoever wins!”

The winner and 5 runners up will also receive a complete set of the Dork Diaries books. The competition is now open and the deadline for entries is 16 November 2012. Age limit is 13.

Entries can be posted to Dork Diaries/Girl Talk comp, PO Box 8951, Market Harborough LE16 0EF.
Or you can email your entry to dorkdiaries@gtcomps.co.uk
The terms and conditions of the ‘Spend a day as a Girl Talk journalist’ competition can be found here.

Good luck to everyone who enters!
