One of the things we like about blogging is that it is super easy to do. Anyone can get a free blog going very quickly, and you don’t need any specialist knowledge to start. You will learn stuff as you go along, but that’s part of the fun of it all.
Some people will want to take their knowledge further by learning coding. It’s not that difficult to learn and once you know it you can use it to build website and useful applications. Many people think that it’s the language and skill of the future which every child needs to know. It could even get you a job one day.
And now Doctor Who is going to help kids learn coding, as the BBC has launched a new game featuring Peter Capaldi’s Doctor.
So if coding interests you, here are 5 ways to learn more about it
- Play the Doctor Who game
The BBC’s computer game The Doctor and the Dalek is part of the Make it Digital initiative to get more young people into computer coding.Voiced by Peter Capaldi, it also stars a friendly Dalek – we didn’t know there was such a thing! This browser game is aimed at six to 12-year-olds. - Attend Code Academy
This free, online code school can be attended by anyone and will teach you to code interactively. Sign up for Code Academy here. - Join Young Rewired State
Young Rewired State is an independent global network of kids aged 18 and under who have taught themselves to program computers. YRS introduces these children to like-minded peers at events around the world where they use freely available open data to make websites, apps and algorithms to solve real world challenges - Set up or join a Coding Club
Does your school offer a coding club? Perhaps you could ask them to set one up. In the UK, Code Club is a nationwide network of after school coding clubs for children aged 9 to 11. - Use a Coding App
Codarica creates game-based storytelling apps that teach kids how to code. Their first app allows kids to build their very own website.
