Today we’re talking blog design. Are you starting to create a blog and wondering how you can get it looking great?

Or maybe you’ve been blogging for a while and your blog design is due for a refresh.

Here are some great blog design tips from a teenage blogger to help your blog stand out in cyberspace.

This guest post is from fourteen-year-old Natasha, an incredibly talented artist who blogs at Tasha’s Art and Design

Hi, I’m Natasha, I’m 14 and I have an art and design blog. When you first start a blog, a good design will immediately gain you lots of readers. Here are some of my tips to designing an effective blog that people will keep coming back to:

Think of a colour scheme and stick to those three or four colours throughout the blog.

Try to reflect your blog in the blogger header, e.g. I incorporated a paintbrush in mine! This will show people what your blog is about straight away.

Stick to one font – more than one will look messy, and confuse the reader. A good font is Georgia, but if you want a more interesting font, make sure it’s easy to read and in a dark colour.

Add some gadgets to make your page interesting, and to help gain followers. Blogger offers lots of gadgets. My most useful gadget is a ‘follow me’ button to let people subscribe easily. Maybe add a poll or list that’s relevant to your blog? Don’t add too many gadgets though, or visitors will get confused!

– Use images that draw attention! You don’t need a 5 star quality camera, just remember: your pictures should reflect your post, blurry and dull pictures will turn your reader away, and you should use your own photos unless you have permission.

– Use a light background colour, to attract attention to your blog posts – after all, that’s what people come to look at! 🙂

Lastly, organize! Make easy navigation for the reader by including a clear archive of your posts.

I hope these tips are helpful!
