So if you’re going to start a blog, you’ll need a place to build it. The two main free blogging sites, or platforms as they’re known, are Blogger and WordPress.
Both will let you start a blog for free, add images and videos easily and check how many people have looked at your site.
Both have a minimum age requirement of 13 – you can see WordPress’s terms of service here. It doesn’t mean that you can’t blog if you’re under 13, it just means that your parent or adult guardian will need to be the one who opens the account, and then you can use it under their supervision.
People who like Blogger will tell you that Blogger is best. People who like WordPress will tell you that WordPress is best. They’re both right – ultimately it’s a matter of personal preference.
If your parent already has a blog or an account with one of these platforms, then it probably makes sense for you to use that one too. That way you only have one place to log in to, your parent will be able to help you manage it easily and you can help each other out with blogging tips.
Both of these blogging platforms are fairly easy to use and have a lot of good back up information if you get stuck. Other options you might want to look at are Tumblr (mainly pictures, doesn’t usually allow comments) and Typepad (paid for service only).
In some ways Blogger is possibly slightly easier to use than WordPress, though the blog designs available through WordPress are slightly more ‘professional’ looking than those on Blogger. It used to be the case that people blogging for a hobby would use Blogger, and people blogging for a business would use WordPress, but that isn’t really the case now.
The other issue I’m aware of is that people who aren’t on Blogger often struggle to leave comments on Blogger blogs. So if you want people to comment on your blog, this could be an issue.
Of course, since both are free you can always try out both and see how you get on. Often the decision will be made by the templates available – if you don’t like the designs on one platform you could always go over to the other. In our family we like WordPress because we like seeing how the site stats are presented in map format, so we can see that people have been reading our blogs from all around the world. It’s a free geography lesson in itself!

I can’t remember why I picked Blogger but it is easy to set up and fast. It is difficult to design things yourself, and the template designer isn’t brilliant but I’ve never really changed the design of my blog much. It’s free, and I just pay £7 a year for my own domain name.It’s absolutely rubbish on an iPad, though, and you can’t write posts from there.
I have tried both Blogger and WordPress for several blogs. I think WordPress is far ahead in number of features and support. It is highly flexible and has a large community of programmers to support with themes, plugins, etc. It is continuously revised by dedicated programmers. Moreover, whatever additional features you want, you can get in one or another plugin. So, my choice is WordPress.
I agree, wordpress is way better, because it has many more facilities than blogger.Me, being a foodie,have quite a unique blog- a blog on food and writing. It can be on any random topic i like- but the twist is its all related to food in some other way. WordPress makes it much easier and i recommend it.
I agree WordPress does have more facilities but not by far. In fact it’s very complicated so when my friend started blog on WordPress we both found it hard.

I use wordpress. I find it easy to use once my mom set it up for me. Sometimes, I do forget the order in which to do things, so I have to ask my mom to help me fix the errors!
I am using WordPress. We bought membership last week as we were having a lot of unwanted advertisement issues. Still, I can see some ad while checking stats or editing. It’s a little annoying! But good thing other visitors do not see those.

I’ve used Blogger as my blogging site for a long time. When Facebook emerged, I started to visit my Bloggr site less and less. It wasn’t until yesterday when I checked my Bloggr site again. Perhaps now would be a good time for me to start blogging!
